Goodreads Monday

Goodreads Monday | The Takedown by Corrie Wang

Hey friends,

I have had a very weird day today. I went into more details on my other social medias, but the short is the sun was incredibly bright and woke me up around 3 hours after I went to sleep. I was able to nap later in the day but woke up after an incredibly weird dream. Yeah, the day wasn’t as productive as I needed it to be, but it was a weird day.

Hope you all had a better day.

As you’re all aware, today is Monday (at least it still is in the States) meaning it Goodreads Monday!Ā For those of you not familiar with this meme, Goodreads Mondays originated on Lauren’s Page Turners’ blog. To participate, you just showcase a random book from your Goodreads page. The twist is that I’m only going to feature my TBR shelf (aka theĀ ā€œwant to read ā€œshelf) Ā like many other people do so I guess it’s notĀ that much of a twist, BUUUUUT, I’m also going to predict my star rating of the book! I’ve seen both Regan (PeruseProject) and Sam (Thoughts on Tomes) do 5 Star TBR Prediction YouTube videos and have been inspired to do a video or post but was struggling to find some 5-Star predictions. This is kind of my middle ground where I can predict my star rating and why and then revisit this post after I read it to see how close I actually was.

To pick the books for this, I’m putting my Goodreads want to read shelf number in a random number generator and letting fate pick the number for me. The lucky number for this week was 357 and as you can see from the title, the lucky book was The Takedown by Corrie Wang.

Synopsis

It would have been funny, if it just wasn’t.

Kyla Cheng doesn’t expect you to like her. For the record, she doesn’t need you to. On track to be valedictorian, she’s president of her community club and a debate team champ, plus the yummy Mackenzie Rodriguez has firmly attached himself to her hip. She and her three high-powered best friends don’t just own their senior year at their exclusive Park Slope, Brooklyn high school, they practically define the hated species Popular. Kyla’s even managed to make it through high school completely unscathed.

Until someone takes issue with this arrangement.

A week before college applications are due, a video of Kyla ā€œdoing itā€ with her crush-worthy English teacher is uploaded to her school’s website. It instantly goes viral, but here’s the thing: it’s not Kyla in the video. With time running out, Kyla delves into a world of hackers, haters and creepy stalkers in an attempt to do the impossible—take something off the internet—all while dealing with the fallout from her own karmic footprint.

Star Rating Prediction:

āļøāļøāļøāļø – 4/5

I remember this one getting a lot of hype last summer when I first joined the bookish community and then appeared to disappear. I swear I have not heard anyone talk about this one in wrap-ups, hauls,Ā or any other videos since the big BookTubers did around May.

That being said, I’m still super intrigued with this book. I think the plot sounds interesting and am excited to see how the story unfolds. Lately, I have really been enjoying YA mystery books and think I will enjoy a lot.
