Happy Monday everyone! This week is officially my hell week. As many of you know, I’m working two retail jobs and here in America, Thanksgiving weekend means rampant consumerism.
Wednesday – Saturday I’m going to be working almost 60 hours between the two jobs and I’m already exhausted. I do have some audiobooks geared up to help pass the (tiny bit) of free time I’m hoping to have.
As you’re all aware, today is Monday (at least it still is in the States) meaning it Goodreads Monday! For those of you not familiar with this meme, Goodreads Mondays originated on Lauren’s Page Turners’ blog. To participate, you just showcase a random book from your Goodreads page. The twist is that I’m only going to feature my TBR shelf (aka the “want to read “shelf) like many other people do so I guess it’s not that much of a twist, BUUUUUT, I’m also going to predict my star rating of the book! I’ve seen both Regan (PeruseProject) and Sam (Thoughts on Tomes) do 5 Star TBR Prediction YouTube videos and have been inspired to do a video or post but was struggling to find some 5-Star predictions. This is kind of my middle ground where I can predict my star rating and why and then revisit this post after I read it to see how close I actually was.
To pick the books for this, I’m putting my Goodreads want to read shelf number in a random number generator and letting fate pick the number for me. The lucky number for this week was 864 and as you can see from the title, the lucky book was The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
Title: Beyond the Black Door
Author: A.M. Strickland
Publication Date: October 29, 2019
Genre(s): Young Adult, Fantasy, LGBT
Kamai was warned never to open the black door, but she didn’t listen …
Everyone has a soul. Some are beautiful gardens, others are frightening dungeons. Soulwalkers―like Kamai and her mother―can journey into other people’s souls while they sleep.
But no matter where Kamai visits, she sees the black door. It follows her into every soul, and her mother has told her to never, ever open it.
When Kamai touches the door, it is warm and beating, like it has a pulse. When she puts her ear to it, she hears her own name whispered from the other side. And when tragedy strikes, Kamai does the unthinkable: she opens the door.
A.M. Strickland’s imaginative dark fantasy features court intrigue and romance, a main character coming to terms with her asexuality, and twists and turns as a seductive mystery unfolds that endangers not just Kamai’s own soul, but the entire kingdom …
Star Rating Prediction:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – 5/5
This book sounds like something I’m going to adore and is a book I’ve been drooling over since hearing people talk about it post BookCon/BookExpo.
I love portal fantasy, people exploring their sexuality, and good representation. I really don’t have much else to say. I think I’m going to love this book and I’m hoping to read it soon so I can find out if I love it or not.
