Goodreads Monday

Goodreads Monday | Vinyl (Vinyl #1) by Sophia Elaine Hanson

Hey friends,

I hope you’re having a great start of the week!

My day is starting out pretty well, but I’ve been holding my breath pretty much all weekend. Without going into too much detail because I don’t want to jinx anything, I had a job interview last Monday and I’m still waiting to hear if I got the job or not.

Here’s to hoping things are looking up enough for me to luck out and get this one. 😅

I will, of course, update you all once I know, but wow I really want this job (and not just because I’m hella broke lol).

ANYWAYS, you’re not here for my nervousness and personal life, you’re here for book stuff. So let’s get into that.

As you’re all aware, today is Monday (at least it still is in the States) meaning it Goodreads Monday! For those of you not familiar with this meme, Goodreads Mondays originated on Lauren’s Page Turners’ blog. To participate, you just showcase a random book from your Goodreads page. The twist is that I’m only going to feature my TBR shelf (aka the “want to read “shelf)  like many other people do so I guess it’s not that much of a twist, BUUUUUT, I’m also going to predict my star rating of the book! I’ve seen both Regan (PeruseProject) and Sam (Thoughts on Tomes) do 5 Star TBR Prediction YouTube videos and have been inspired to do a video or post but was struggling to find some 5-Star predictions. This is kind of my middle ground where I can predict my star rating and why and then revisit this post after I read it to see how close I actually was.

To pick the books for this, I’m putting my Goodreads want to read shelf number in a random number generator and letting fate pick the number for me. The lucky number for this week was 593 and as you can see from the title, the lucky book was Vinyl (Vinyl #1) by Sophia Elaine Hanson.

Synopsis

All citizens within the soaring black walls of Revinia have metal Singers grafted into their skulls at birth. The parasitic machines issue a form of auditory hypnosis called The Music, which keeps their minds malleable and emotions flat. All artistic expression—especially real music—is strictly prohibited.

On the edge of the city, nineteen year old Ronja struggles to support her cousins and disabled mother. A chance meeting leads to her kidnapping by an underground resistance striving to preserve the human spirit. Violently severed from her Singer by the brash young agent Roark, Ronja revels in her newfound freedom until the consequences of her disappearance begin to unfold.

Star Rating Prediction:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – 4/5

I’ve seen Jay from Awkward Bookworm rave about this book for a while now and I’m so intrigued to pick this trilogy up! This is a play on the classic siren story and it sounds really good. I’m curious to see how the concept of no artistic expression is explored! I personally think I’m going to really enjoy this one, and after seeing a friend hype it up so much, I really hope I do.

Have you read Vinyl?
