Bookish Memes/Weekly Posts · Down the TBR Hole

Down the TBR Hole // #4

Hi friends!

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these.

I’ve added a lot to my TBR, but I still haven’t gone through it to see if I want to take anything off. Let’s see if today is the day where we actually remove some things from the TBR.

For those of you not familiar, this meme was created by Lost in a Story (also the creator of the stunning graphic!) and it was designed to help you go through and clean out your Goodreads “to read” shelf. I know I add books on there and completely forget about them or only add books because of the hype, but had no desire to actually read them.

How it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “To Read” shelf stats: 774 books (yup, that went up since last time)

This week’s books: 21-25
Book 21:

18910286.jpgInsanity by Cameron Jace

I am so excited to finally read this one. This is a modern Alice in Wonderland retelling that I’ve heard amazing things about! This book follows 19-year-old Alice and reminds me of what the Tim Burton Alice wanted to be. I definitely plan on reading this one soon.

VERDICT: KEEP

Book 22:

I think we’ve finally found my first book to remove. Bless. But joking aside, this one sounds interesting, but one I would have enjoyed back in the day. Its a retelling with paranormal elements and most of the reviews are from between 2011 and 2015. I may revisit this one later, but right now I’ll remove it from my TBR.

VERDICT: REMOVE

Book 23:

12930909.jpgBetween the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke

Okay, so I’m really torn on this one. The synopsis sounds incredibly intriguing but the book has been getting super mixed reviews. I’ve read a few works from April Genevieve Tucholke and haven’t been blown away by them. I don’t know, I’ll keep it for now, but may remove it in the future.

VERDICT: KEEP (for now)

Book 24:

18509623.jpgThe Girl from the Well by Rin Chupeco

Oooo, I forgot about this one, but it looks like a perfect spooky read for the fall. The synopsis has me sold and the reviews look pretty good. I am definitely planning on picking this one up in October!

VERDICT: KEEP

Book 25:

327945.jpgRowan Hood: Outlaw Girl of Sherwood Forest by Nancy Springer

This is another book that sounds like it has a lot of potentials, but it sounds like one that I would have enjoyed more back in the day. Also, while I do enjoy Robin Hood, it’s not a story I usually seek out retellings of.

VERDICT: REMOVE

REMOVAL PERCENTAGE: 40%

And those are the next 5 books on my “To Read” shelf.

Have you read any of these books?

Should I prioritize any of these?

Should I keep (or get rid of) any of these?

Let me know below!

  1. I’ve heard pretty mixed reviews about Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea too, maybe keep it on the backburner but pick it up if you see it at the library or in a second-hand shop?
I’ve heard great things about The Girl from the Well, I hope you enjoy it!

    Happy reading!
