Bookish Memes/Weekly Posts · Down the TBR Hole

Down the TBR Hole // #3

Hi friends!

Well, we’re at the end of the week. I’ve had a pretty chill week compared to the rest of the month.

I got some news yesterday that confirmed some major changes coming in the next month or so. I’ll officially announce everything when I have dates and stuff, but yeah, there are some big things coming.

Also, tomorrow kicks off July (holy crap, how are we at July already?!)! I have some fun things in store for the future of the blog and channel and I can’t wait to share it with you all!

For those of you not familiar, this meme was created by Lost in a Story (also the creator of the stunning graphic!) and it was designed to help you go through and clean out your Goodreads “to read” shelf. I know I add books on there and completely forget about them or only add books because of the hype, but had no desire to actually read them.

How it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “To Read” shelf stats: 709 books (yup, that went up since last week)

This week’s books: 16-20
Book 16:

17878931Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

I’ve heard so many mixed things about this book/series, but I think I want to give it a chance. The biggest issues have been that it’s super cliche and feels like many other popular YA books, however since I went through a YA dry spell, I’m hoping that it won’t be as bad for me.

VERDICT: KEEP

Book 17:

27833670Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

This is a book I know mostly through reputation. I’ve seen many readers praise this book for being twisted and a proper mind fuck. Personally, I like going into these kinds of books blind, so I don’t know much about it, though a brief skim of the synopsis for this list still has me pretty intrigued.

VERDICT: KEEP

Book 18:

25314447Given to the Sea by Mindy McGinnis

I’ve seen people adore this book and others absolutely trash this book. For now, I’m going to tentatively keep it, but I won’t be surprised if I end up DNFing it or not liking it. One thing leading me to keep it is that part of the plot kind of reminds me of Andromeda and the Kraken from Clash of the Titans due to the whole sacrifice to the sea bit.

VERDICT: KEEP

Book 19:

119324The Subtle Knife by Phillip Pullman

Okay, so I read this first book in this series a year ago and started this one. I ended up putting it down for something else and haven’t picked it back up yet. I am going to keep this one since I really want to know how the trilogy ends.

VERDICT: KEEP

Book 20:

8621462

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

I’ve heard so many people praise this book and really want to check it out! Right now the main reason I’ve held off on reading it is that I know it’s supposed to be super sad, but as soon as I’m in the right head space, I’m definitely going to check it out!

VERDICT: KEEP

REMOVAL PERCENTAGE: 0% (wow, I’m doing a great job at this 😬)

And those are the next 10 books on my “To Read” shelf.

Have you read any of these books?

Should I prioritize any of these?
