Hi friends!
I’ve seen this meme going around for a while, usually on Destiny’s blog. I’ve been intrigued and am finally ready to take the plunge!
For those of you not familiar, this meme was created by Lost in a Story (also the creator of the stunning graphic!) and it was designed to help you go through and clean out your Goodreads “to read” shelf. I know I add books on there and completely forget about them or only add books because of the hype, but had no desire to actually read them.
How it works:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
- Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!
Current “To Read” shelf stats: 683 books
This week’s books: 1-5
Book 1:
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
I read the Kite Runner back in high school and really enjoyed it. I remember feeling super glum and melancholy while reading it, but I thought it was powerful. A couple years ago, my friend gave me Hosseini’s newest book as a Christmas present. I’ve been really excited to read this one, but I’ve also been putting it off. Here’s to hoping I get to it in 2018.
VERDICT: KEEP
Book 2:
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Everyone and the mother have read this book, but I haven’t. I have also somehow avoided all spoilers for this one, so I’m really looking forward to checking it out. I have an audiobook of it, so I plan on getting to it sometime soon. Oh, and I didn’t read the synopsis since I prefer to go into thrillers knowing little to nothing about the book.
VERDICT: KEEP
Book 3:
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
I don’t really know much about this book other than it’s WWII fiction and lots of people on BookTube really like it. WWII fiction really isn’t my thing, but I’ll definitely check it out.
If you read this one, what are your thoughts on it?
VERDICT: KEEP
Book 4:
The Glass Sword (Red Queen #2) by Victoria Aveyard
I love retellings and I love Alice in Wonderland, so I think giving this series a shot is worth it. Now, this is book two, so I’ll keep this at least until I read book 1 and make a final call.
VERDICT: KEEP
Book 5:
The Raven King (The Raven Cycle #4) by Maggie Stiefvater
So, I read book 1 last year and thought it was fine. I liked it enough, but it didn’t wow me the way I thought it was going to after hearing so much hype. I want to give the rest of the books a shot, hoping the overarching story is more enjoyable than just the first book. I did hear that this series is better as a reread, so who knows.
VERDICT: KEEP
REMOVAL PERCENTAGE: 0%
And those are the first 5 books on my “To Read” shelf.
Have you read any of these books?
Should I prioritize any of these?
Let me know below!
These are all on my TBR as well, but I honestly doubt whether I’ll ever get to them. 🙈 & I didn’t realize Glass Sword was a retelling! I’m shook.

Hahaha the premise reminded me a lot of through the looking glass, but maybe I was wrong lol 😬🙈

I’m honestly the worst at taking things off my TBR–I swear if I ever participated in this tag, every single time I would keep the things. I haven’t read any of them, so I can’t say, but these look like solid keeps to me. I didn’t know Glass Sword was an Alice in Wonderland retelling, though! Wow!
