Hey everyone,
Ah sorry about disappearing…again. I’ve been studying for midterms, writing thesis drafts, and working on presentations (aka trying to survive grad school). Did you know there is such a thing as too much coffee? I didn’t think it existed either!
This past week I have (attempted) to completed two read-a-thons: SpookAThon and the #TBRKnockdown24, a monthly 24-Hour Read-A-Thon on Instagram. Read on to see how I did!
SpookAThon:
The Spookathon was a week-long read-a-thon that ran from October 16th-22nd and had five challenges readers could try to complete:
- Read a thriller
- Read a book with a spooky word in the title
- Read a book based on a childhood fear
- Read a book with orange on the cover
- Read a book that has a spooky setting.
If you want to check out my TBR, you can watch my YouTube video here:
Wrap-up:
The first two days of Spookathon were GREAT. I knocked out my first two books and was on a roll.
…Then I had a midterm.
…Then I was in the mood to read a different book.
…Then I didn’t finish anything else. Oops.
The books:
The two books I finished were:
Book 1: A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Challenge: Read a thriller
Book 2: You by Caroline Kepnes
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Challenge: Read a book with a spooky setting (being the victim of a stalker and inside his mind was downright creepy)
I also started a third book. That one was:
Book 3: The Girl Who Ignored Ghosts by K. C. Tansley
Rating: N/A – Not finished yet
Challenge: Read a book with a spooky word in the title
#TBRKnockdown24:
This month, the #TBRKnockdown24 overlapped with the spookathon, taking place from 9pm on October 20th – 9pm on October 21st (EST). This is one of my favorite monthly read-a-thons.
This month, I was able to complete two books and start a third book, for a total of 833 pages read in 24 hours.
Book 1: Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ – 4.75/5 Stars
YOU GUYS!! I FINALLY STARTED THE LUNAR CHRONICLES!! Oh and I really liked Cinder. Super creative retelling that hits on the classic aspects of the Cinderella story without being too predictable. This book had me hungry for more.
Book 1: By Your Side by Kasie West
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ – 3.5/5 Stars
This is my first Kasie West book and I thought it was pretty cute. There were some parts that I really enjoyed and other parts that were meh. I liked that there was mention of mental health in here, however, I felt like it could have been explored more. This is a great choice for lovers of contemporaries!
Book 3: The Girl Who Ignored Ghosts by K. C. Tansley
Rating: N/A – Not yet finished
The story is interesting enough to hold my attention, however, there are some writing and pacing issues that I’ve noticed. Will go into this more after I’ve finished the book.
Not read-a-thon related reading:
Because I read Cinder on Friday, I spent all day Saturday wanting to continue. So I did. I was able to get the audiobook for Scarlet on Sunday and spend the rest of the weekend and beginning of the week listening to the subsequent books. I’m about a quarter of the way done with Winter now!
How did your weekend reading go? Be sure to let me know down in the comments!
I always love hearing how people discover The Lunar Chronicles and have the need to fly through them, haha. Hope you enjoyed every installment! 😀
Still a good job on the read-a-thons, though!
I joined Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-thon last weekend because I was home alone and it seemed perfect. Apparently being home alone isn’t a good thing because I fell asleep all the time while reading.. So weird! Hopefully I’ll be able to arrange something else for the next time I’m joining one of those, haha.
