Hello everyone!
I just finished the 24-Hour Read-A-Thon and am thrilled with how I jump started my reading this month!!
When I was planning on doing this Read-A-Thon, I went a bit ambitious with my TBR because I was planning on having the entire day free. Instead, I hung out with family that was visiting and had to run a few work-related errands. That being said, I was not able to complete my TBR, but I did get an impressive amount read over these last 24-hours.
Books I Read:
Book 1: Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Total Pages: 609 Pages
Pages Read: 300 Pages (already read 309 pages prior to read-a-thon)
Book Rating:ย โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโจ
Brief Review: This book honestly took me way too long to read (because of personal issues) for how good it was. The last 200 pages had so many twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat until the end. I loved the mixed media format of this book and honestly cannot wait to dive into Gemina to see how it compares. I did knock off half a star because the beginning was a bit slow and the story took a while to unfold.
Book 2: Revenants: The Odyssey Home by Scott Kaufman*
Total Pages: 306 Pages
Pages Read: 200 Pages (already read 206 pages prior to read-a-thon)
Book Rating:ย โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโจ
Brief Review: This book was way outside my reading comfort zone. Revenants is an adult historical fiction novel that took me a while to get into. I mentioned on my Instagram updates that this book took me longer to read in general (like my reading speed decreased for this book). I think that fans of genuine historical fantasy will like this one.
Book 3: The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken (eARC)*
Total Pages: 272 Pages
Pages Read: 272 Pages
Book Rating:ย โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ
Brief Review: This book was so much fun. When I heard that there was a Middle Grade book about demons being published by Disney-Hyperion, I HAD to get my hands on it. I’m not going to lie, this was a 3-3.5 star book for most of the story. It was a lot of fun, but I was expecting more. That was until the climax. Holy crap, so many things happened, we got some fun twists and turns, and I’m SO EXCITED for the sequel.
Book 4: The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue
Total Pages: 513 Pages
Pages Read: 73 Pages (listened to audiobook, read 56 pages prior to read-a-thon)
Book Rating: TBD (have not finished book yet)
Brief Review**: I am adoring this book so far. I have not laughed this hard reading a book…pretty much ever. Monty is a delightful narrator and knowing his inner thoughts is helping so much with the humor. I took the advice of pretty much everyone and got the audiobook for this one. Christian Coulson (aka Tom Riddle from Chamber of Secrets) narrates this book and he does an amazing job! Oh my gosh, get it now. Just, get it now.
*Full reviews will be coming soon!
** I’m not done with this books yet. My thoughts may change as the book unfolds.
Final stats:
Pages Read: 845
Books Completed: 3
TBR Completed? No
Satisfied with reading accomplished? Heck yes! I hope the rest of this month’s reading is as successful of these last 24 hours.
Did you complete the (or a) 24-Hour Read-A-Thon recently? If so how did you do? Be sure to let me know in the comments!
I’m thinking about doing another 24-Hour Read-A-Thon towards the end of the month to get in another reading binge before my fall semester starts.
I’ve never thought about doing a 24 hr readathon but I really want to now! So busy this month though so would have to wait.
